Terry Gordon, age 10, will perform with Men in Motion on March 9 & 10 in ‘Beyond Belief: Youth Voices Through Dance.’
How long have you danced at Moving in the Spirit?
I’ve been dancing here for I don’t even know how many years. Since I was small.
Have you ever been afraid to speak out about something you believe in? What do you do in that situation?
All the time. I’ll take deep breaths and go ahead and face whatever I’m gonna face.
What advice would you give to another young person who wants to speak up but isn’t feeling confident?
If you’re not feeling confident, go talk to somebody, your parents or someone else who helps you feel confident.
What dance are you excited to perform in the upcoming show?
There’s a part where we do a trust fall. I like that part a lot.
What has been your biggest challenge in preparing for the show?
Staying focused. I like to laugh and I get triggered fast. So I might go get some water or take deep breaths and ask to sit down for a minute to stay focused.
Why should people come see this performance?
This performance took us a lot of time. Some of the things we’ve had to do over and over again to get ready. It’s kind of hard, but when you see it we’re going to get it right. You’re going to like it!
