Moving In The Spirit
Ages 13-18 All - Apprentice Corp.
Apprentice Corporation - by audition only
The Apprentice Corporation is an intensive training program that teaches dance technique, problem solving and critical thinking skills to youth ages 13-18. The Apprentice Corporation program is $73.50/month, with need-based scholarships available. Apprentice Corporation teens receive up to 7 hours of weekly instruction in modern dance, ballet, and choreography, and dedicate their summer and spring breaks to the program. After an audition, Apprentice Corporation students sign a “commitment contract” outlining goals and responsibilities. With more rigorous dance training, students develop and practice repertoire that they perform in local venues and on an annual national tour. The repertoire they rehearse and perform reflects relevant social issues, promotes diversity, and explores the teen’s unique voices. Apprentice Corporation dancers are encouraged to take advantage of leadership opportunities with Moving in the Spirit, including teaching positions and office internships. Additionally, Apprentice Corporation dancers receive monthly Life Skills workshops and are paired with mentors who serve as positive role models.
On their annual national tour, Apprentice Corporation dancers travel the country while inspiring diverse audiences with powerful performances. Since the program began, Apprentice Corporation members have taken their thought-provoking shows to more than 35 US cities and countries, including New York City, Toronto, Chicago, Los Angeles, the Czech Republic and France. During the tour, the teens visit college campuses, participate in public speaking engagements, and conduct service and educational activities with youth organizations in other cities.
Auditions for the 2010-2011 program year will take place on August 28, 2010 from 1:30pm-3:30pm.
