Brittany is a 16-year-old dancer in our Apprentice Corporation. This is her first year at Moving in the Spirit and her first dance tour!
This is your first year at Moving in the Spirit. What makes this program unique from your other dance experiences?
“I’ve never had people try to dig into my life and want to help and improve me in this way. Every day, Jessica, my teacher, asks me how I’m feeling. I’ve never had that personal relationship before with a teacher.”
What are you most looking forward to on tour?
“We’re getting to train with a lot of different artists on this tour. I’m looking forward to the diversity in dance and techniques I’ll learn.”
How do you plan to stand out as a leader?
“I think I can have a voice in how we set up for performances on tour. I’m good at this and think I can step up.”
As part of your training this year, you’ve worked with several guest artists. What have you learned working with them?
“Christina Suarez from California worked with us while she was in residency at Emory. In the process, I was surprised at how much I learned about how to communicate with friends and parents.”
What do you want audiences to take away from this year’s tour show?
“I want the audience to interested and intrigued. I want them to want to see the show again because they’re so excited and curious.”
Come support Brittany and her fellow dancers at their Atlanta tour performance on Friday, June 26, 8 PM at 7 Stages Theatre.
