17-year-old Diamond has danced with Moving in the Spirit for twelve years. This is her third year touring with the Apprentice Corporation.
You have been with Moving in the Spirit for a long time. What will you miss most, now that you’re heading off to college in the fall?
“I’ll miss the depth of this program and the connection we have as a team.”
What are you most looking forward to on tour this year?
“I’m looking forward to the American Dance Festival, because I’ve heard so much about it. We’ll be able to take so many different classes at a place where there will be hundreds of people with the same passion for dance we have.”
Dancers are not guaranteed a spot on the tour team even if they’ve toured in previous years. What did you do to earn your spot?
“I had to to work hard and really focus. I also had to show growth as far as leadership — I had to get better at not procrastinating, and at communicating with others and being aware of their feelings.”
What do you want audiences to take away from this year’s tour show?
“I want them to have a better understanding of what it means to have good relationships, and how important that is. Instead of focusing on negatives, I want them to be aware of what’s good in their lives.”
The theme of this year’s tour is ‘Stand Up.’ What do you stand for?
“This year on tour, I stand for happiness. If I can make someone smile, or be the person that brings people together, I’ll feel like I’ve stood for what I believe in.”
Come see Diamond and her peers give their final tour performance on Friday, June 26, 8 PM at Atlanta’s 7 Stages Theatre.
