Harlem Smith, age 13, will perform with Men in Motion on March 9 & 10 in ‘Beyond Belief: Youth Voices Through Dance.’
So this is your first year at Moving in the Spirit. What do you like about it?
The teachers are so friendly. I like the structure of it and the purpose.
What does it mean to you to share your voice and speak out?
To speak ideas and generally try to change the world to be a better place.
How do you speak up and speak out in your everyday life?
Correcting bad things.
What is something you believe really strongly in, that you would speak up about no matter what?
Not hitting women.
Have you ever been afraid to speak out about anything?
What would you say to another young person who doesn’t feel as brave as you do about speaking out?
Just don’t think about it. Just do it.
What has been your biggest challenge getting ready for the show?
Stage fright. But I just keep focused.
Why should people come see this performance?
They get to see all the kids having fun and improving in their dancing.
