Jerome Tillery, age 11, will perform with Men in Motion on March 9 & 10 in ‘Beyond Belief: Youth Voices Through Dance.’
You’ve been dancing here for several years. What is your favorite thing about being here?
I found out about it because my mom used to dance here. I just really love dancing.
What is your upcoming show about?
It’s about standing by each other and trusting each other.
What is something you really believe in standing up for?
Helping animals and making sure they’re not abused.
What would you say to another young person who wants to speak up or speak out about something but is afraid to?
Other people don’t tell you who you are. You tell yourself who you are.
Tell me about some of the dances in the show.
‘No Matter How Hard You Try’ is about how you try to do things that people say you cannot, but you have to tell yourself you can. ‘Stand by Me’ is telling someone else to stand by you, and you telling them that they can do it, even it if feels like the world is ending.
Why do you think people should come see this performance?
Sometimes there’s people who try to prevent you from thinking that the world is a good place. Our dance shows the world is a good place.
