Summer Dance Series – West African Dance
August 9 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm
An event every week that begins at 6:30 pm on Tuesday, repeating until August 9, 2022
Moving in the Spirit is launching a six-week open class series for movers of all ages. Children, parents, grandparents, dancers, and dance lovers – all are welcome!
Tuesdays will feature West African Dance with Giwayen Mata. Set to live percussion of the djembe drum orchestra and tailored for beginning and intermediate dancers, this multi-generational community class teaches fundamentals of dances from the Baga, Bambara, Malinke, and Susu people of Greater Senegambia.
Giwayen Mata celebrates the lives of women and uplifts our communities and our planet while perpetuating the cultures of Africa and the Afrikan Diaspora through the study, creation, teaching, and presentation of artistic media including dances, rhythms, songs, poetry, and prose around the world.
