Holiday Store 2020: Spread the Cheer Online This Year!
December 12, 2020
Our beloved annual event, the Holiday Store, is still going strong this holiday season!
Moving in the Spirit’s young people earn points throughout our program year for meeting goals and keeping their commitments — i.e., being on time for class, dressing in their uniform, and staying focused, to name a few. At the Holiday Store, they use those points to “buy” gifts for their families and loved ones.
In past years, we’ve transformed our dance studios into a winter wonderland filled with toys and gifts for hundreds of students and their families. This year’s store has been reimagined as a contactless curbside event, designed to delight while maintaining safe social distance!
You can bring this year’s Holiday Store to life by:
- Donating funds for gifts. Click HERE to donate online. Be sure to designate your gift as “Holiday Store.” You will automatically receive a cash donation receipt for your tax records.
- Donating gift cards to one of our THREE most requested stores. Click HERE to complete our Gift Card Donation Questionnaire. The questionnaire must accompany your gift card donation.
- Target Gift Card: $10 or $20
- Walmart Gift Card: $10 or $20
- Visa Gift Card: $25
Frequently Asked Questions:
Where can I send funds and gift cards?
Gift cards and checks can be mailed to Moving in the Spirit at P.O. Box 170230 Atlanta, GA 30317. Make sure to indicate that your check or gift is designated for the Holiday Store. Please complete the Gift Card Questionnaire, even if you are mailing your gift card.
Note: If you have questions or need to arrange a special drop-off or pick-up please email Crystal Faision-Mitchell at crystal[at]movinginthespirit.org.
When is the deadline for donating funds or gift cards?
The deadline for donating funds or gift cards is Wednesday, December 9th at 6 PM. Please remember that you must submit a completed Gift Card Questionnaire with your gift card donation. Gift card donations are NOT considered the same as cash donations. Cash donations do not need this questionnaire, and can be made either online (please designate Holiday Store) or via check. You will receive a tax receipt.
Can I donate toys and other items, or only gift cards?
For safety reasons, we are only accepting gift cards this year. Students will receive the cards based on the number of points earned through great behavior, and use the cards to purchase gifts for their families and loved ones. We’ve chosen Target and Walmart because these stores are affordable and offer online ordering and curbside pick-up. Of course, VISA can be used anywhere.
I volunteer for the Store every year. Can I still volunteer in-person?
For safety reasons, we are not utilizing in-person volunteers for this year’s Holiday Store. BUT, you can share words of encouragement for our students via email or USPS (we all need a little Sunshine in these times!) and we’ll be sure they receive them!
Thank you for supporting the Holiday Store and helping to keep this festive, meaningful tradition alive for our students in this year of so many changes. We are grateful!
