Moving in the Spirit is thrilled to engage Shani Godwin (CEO, Communiqué USA, Inc), Curtis Kohlhaas (Chief Development Officer, The Carter Center), and David Norris (RSUI, retired) as our newest members on our board of directors. We welcome their respective subject matter expertise at a very exciting time in our trajectory as we continue to build upon the recent success of meeting our $8.4 million capital campaign goal. The collective experience of Shani, Curtis, and David will strengthen our organization, expanding our reach to use dance to teach young people the social, emotional and cognitive skills they need to thrive.

Moving in the Spirit completed the initial threshold of our capital campaign, A Space to Soar, in the fall of 2018. The campaign funds construction of our new home as part of MARTA’s transit-oriented development at Edgewood/Candler Park Station. In partnership with MARTA and Columbia Ventures, the project will double our capacity from 250 to 500 students and reach an additional 15,000 children and families through community programming. With construction underway — a groundbreaking ceremony took place on October 11, 2018 — Moving in the Spirit has launched a paver and seat-naming program to raise additional funds to outfit our new state-of-the-art theatre and build community partnerships.

“The timing is perfect to add the expertise of Shani, Curtis, and David to our board,” says Dana Lupton, CEO and co-founder of Moving in the Spirit. “Shani’s expertise as a marketing and advertising executive will guide our organization’s plans for growth. David’s background in risk-assessment will ensure that growth is strategic. And Curtis’s experience building national and international relationships is unparalleled.”

Welcome to the team Shani, Curtis, and David!
