On October 24, 2015, Moving in the Spirit teens will present their newest work, Getting to Zero, commissioned by the prestigious Elton John AIDS Foundation and the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta.
Getting to Zero is a humorous, empowering dance, created by teens and for teens, to confront the fears and taboos that prevent their friends from talking honestly about personal choices, safe sex, and the rise of HIV/AIDS diagnoses among youth.
Did you know?
- There has been a 70% spike in HIV/AIDS diagnoses in teens
- Atlanta is an epicenter among U.S. cities when it come to the rate of new diagnoses
Getting to Zero is part of a new partnership, funded by the Elton John AIDS Foundation and conceived by the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta, to educate Atlanta’s youth about HIV and AIDS. Moving in the Spirit and project partner, VOX Teen Communications, will use the funding to develop innovative teen programming that utilizes dance, dialogue, print and social media to reach young people at risk for HIV.
Join us for a special preview of this new work and dialogue with our teens about the creative process, then save the date for the project’s full afternoon of teen-driven programming on Saturday, December 5 (time and location TBD).
