Thulani Vereen is a dancer, choreographer, teaching artist, software engineer, and filmmakerbased in Atlanta, Georgia. She received her dance training from Alonzo King LINES Ballet,Complexions Contemporary Ballet, The Dance Theatre of Harlem, the Philadelphia Dance Company (Philadanco!) and the Spelman Dance Theatre. She has studied under the likes ofMilton Myers, Anthony Burrell, Kathleen Wessel, T. Lang, Ashley Mayeux, Clifford Williamsand many more. She holds a bachelor’s in computer science from Spelman College where shemerged her passions for computer science and dance through award-winning research projects.Her movement style lives in the intersection of modern, ballet, and contemporary dance. Herdance pedagogy takes a computational approach to dance in which she challenges artists to buildalgorithmic processes through the body to efficiently invent new movements based off aclassical, technical framework. Thulani has been an Artist in Residence at the AtlantaContemporary Art Center with Dance Canvas, a guest artist with the Georgia TechScience.Art.Wonder program, a guest artist at the HomeTraining Experimental Galley and hasproduced 2 short films since graduating in 2020. She is currently an Artist in Residence atMathematics in Motion, inc. Thulani aims to show students of all ages that dance is a vehicle forcreativity and expression which can be used to unlock new innovations just as science and mathcan.
