Naasir Coleman, age 10, Men in Motion dancer
Why do real mean dance?
“It depends on what they are dancing. If they are dancing in a sloppy way or they’re out of shape, going wiggly or sideways or upside down, they are probably just feeling silly or really active. But if they are being graceful, it probably means that they are taking their dancing seriously.”
Why do you like your classes at Moving in the Spirit?
“I like being here not only because of my friends, but because this place is like family to me. It helps me through hard times. It teaches us lessons. Through dancing, my teachers, the other students, this place is like a magical fairy tale.”
When you dance, what feelings or thoughts do you have?
“When I’m dancing, lots of times I feel like I want to be the leader of the group. I think about five words: joy, grace, happiness, love and family.”
When you dance, what messages do you send to the audience?
“Sometimes, I’m sending life-learning lessons or messages of how something in my life has changed, or just how I am feeling.”
