What does the name YASS: Young Artistic Strong Sisters mean to you?
I think this name lets people know that women and girls can be really strong, no matter what situation they’re in.
What is the most important thing you’ve learned from being in GLOW in Motion?
I’ve learned to be confident and know what I’m trying to say so that people will understand me.
What do you hope to be when you get older? Why?
I want to be a chef because I come from a cooking family and it brings me joy. I also want to be a dancer because it helps me express myself without words and because people say that by dancing big and confidently, I bring the message to the audience.
If you weren’t part of GLOW in Motion or at Moving in the Spirit, what do you think you would miss the most?
I would miss the people at Moving in the Spirit and being around all girls because we can tell each other things that we probably wouldn’t feel comfortable doing in a mixed group. I’d also miss the energy.
How are you a leader at Moving in the Spirit?
I think I’m a leader because I set examples for people that think they’re not good at something, they see me and think, “Oh, if she can do it, why can’t I? I can be that person, I can dance big, I can dance confidently, I can bring a message across to the audience, I can do all those things if I try and won’t give up no matter how many mistakes I make.”
How do you show strength in your performance and in your life?
With dance and reality, sometimes the movement or the work or the friendship is really hard or complicated and you can’t give up. You just have to be who you are and keep on going until you’re at the top because, at the end of the day, you’re going to be this powerful person that everyone wants to see you become and that you want to see yourself become. You can’t get there without believing that you are strong enough or smart enough.
